These valves are designed to rapidly open or close using pyrotechnic devices, such as squibs or initiators, activated by an electrical signal. The key benefit of pyro valves lies in their rapid response time and compact, light weight construction due to the high energy density of pyrotechnic actuation. This allows for quick and precise control of propellant flow and system isolation. This feature is essential for critical functions like system priming, feed system pre-valves, stage separation, and payload deployment in aerospace applications. A key advantage of our pyrotechnic valves is their resettability, which allows for reuse with refurbishment without cutting the valves out of system plumbing. Being able to be reset valves in place allows for faster turnaround time during testing and higher fidelity results. This innovative design not only saves time but also reduces overall costs associated with valve replacement. This reusability comes with the tradeoff of higher leakage rates than typical “parent metal” construction pyro valve designs.

Replaceable Pyrotechnic Cartridge Valve Resettability
Our resettable pyro valves that utilize a replaceable pyrotechnic cartridge are reusable after refurbishment following these steps:
Post-actuation with customer supplied initiator, allow system pressure to vent to atmosphere.
Remove spent pyro cartridge.
Remove loose frangible disc and ensure valve body is clean.
Re-install new pyrotechnic cartridge (sold separately - Contact Us to order) and tighten to 170 in-lbf.
Install new customer supplied pyrotechnic initiator and you’re ready to go.
Pin Puller Pyrotechnic Valve Resettability
Our resettable pyro valves that utilize a pin puller mechanism are reusable after refurbishment following these steps:
Post-actuation with customer supplied initiator, allow system pressure to vent to atmosphere.
Unbolt disposable pin puller cartridge and discard (or, set on your desk as a neat paper weight!).
Loosen inlet flange bolts such that a slight gap (1/16”) appears.
Apply light pressure to actuation cavity with reset fitting (sold separately - Contact Us to order).
Insert new pin puller cartridge and bolt in place.
Re-tighten inlet bolt flanges.
Install new customer supplied pyrotechnic initiator and you’re ready to go.
